Lytics - Start by waking up

written by Anthony Classen

She was only sixteen when she left home
With a suitcase full of dreams
Off into the unknown
With no real plans
And no idea
Just a burning desire
While ignoring her mother’s tears
She stepped into the fire

Chorus
We all wished her well as we waved goodbye from the verandah
The message that we all wanted to send her
Was if she wants her dreams to come true
She should start by waking up

Where will she sleep
Where will she eat
And what about money
Or the company she’ll keep
Will she find work out there and support herself
There’ll be times she be afraid
And there’ll be times she’ll need help

With the need to find out
All about life for herself
Too proud to ask her mother
For advise or ask for help

Chorus
We all wished her well as we waved goodbye from the verandah
The message that we all wanted to send her
Was if she wants her dreams to come true
She should start by waking up
