When I look at my wife, I see that even though she is now a city girl, she cannot escape her country past, and nor does she want to. One day we were camping and I was sitting next to the fire writing this song and I was stuck for some lyrics. Sandy was cooking up a feast for the girls and I yelled out, “Hey babe, how do you get to your old farm?” She called back from inside the caravan, “Just head down the gravel road, past the Elix place [yes, Dwayne’s father’s place], across the cattle grid and just past the pine wind break and you’ll come to it”. Perfect.

Living this city life
Is killing you each day
I should of never made ya leave
Yea we should of stayed
I know it was my mistake
And I’m gonna make it right
I’ll do whatever it takes
For ya to stop missing ya country life
Honey I’m sorry
Please don’t feel this way
Together tomorrow
We’ll go down our gravel road
Past the Elix place
Cross the cattle grid
Past the pine wind break
I’ll watch you smile
Cause we’ll be back where we belong
All those dreams I’d said we’d have
They were too far away
Hell knows I promised lots
But too much got in the way
Money saved won’t buy back youth
And city livin brings you down
You’re a real country girl
You were never meant to live in town
